^ this is a story about a guy in his first year of a 30 - 50 year sentence for beating a toddler to death. The prisoner -age 35, 6'2" and 265 pounds- died of what appear to be blood clots in the lungs. In the comments related to the story it is speculated that a person beaten hard can develop clots in the lungs, ergo his death. Is this possible? This guy being beaten unto death?

I'm going to say that's probably the most likely cause....and I'd personally like to thank whomever admistered it and saved the taxpayer 35-40k a year in housing this waste of a life.

A new "cause" that has seemed to come into fashion is handwringing and wanting to "do something" about the male on male prison rape "epidemic" (as if this is some sort of a new thing). I can agree that juveniles shouldn't be thrown into GenPop like chum in the water......but I'm totally down with adults having the fear of a very possible reality that if you get locked up you just might end up being made someone's bitch and traded around for cigarettes. how about instead of worrying about the prison rape issue, worry about the issue of a whole generation of people not concerned about going to prison?

The Detroit City Council today unanimously passed an ordinance requiring digital surveillance equipment at gas stations, upgrades that could have provided a clearer image of the suspects involved in the beating of a motorist who hit a Detroit boy last week.

The city ordinance sets minimum standards for the specifications and placement of video equipment at Detroit self-serve gas stations. The standards will have to be met for gas stations to renew their annual licenses.

I was waiting for a nice empty gesture to address this problem.

5th person in custody in connection to driver's mob beating in Detroit

The 17 year old was mistakenly released but then picked up again and is being held on a $500K bond. They are so going to fuck this kid (after they buy him dinner, of course). I can't see him doing less than 20 years if convicted, but that'll still get him out at an age which will allow plenty opportunity for more crimes and stupidity.

In other news, the case of the Army vet won't be prosecuted because he not only instigated the whole thing but he followed his assailants for a mile to ensure a further beating. I thought his story was flaky from the get go.

I did too. People just don't go after people associated with the military anymore. In the (almost) 25 years since I've been out, the only problem I ever had was getting pointed out and called a bunch of names by a bunch of crazies protesting the war while wearing my field jacket on WSU's campus during Gulf War I....

You don't get the shit beat out of you just for being a vet.

That being said, this guy is a douche and needs an extended blanket party

Just a day before her 47th birthday, this mother thought she was going to die.

After visiting with family Tuesday night in Detroit she got on the road and headed to her children's house with her cousin trailing behind her. Along the way her cousin lost track of her.

The next thing the victim remembers is being in the middle of the street on Detroit's east side without her shoes, purse or car.

"I just kept saying, 'What happened? What happened,'" she said.

Police say two men snatched her from her car, beat her up and drove off with her boyfriend's 1997 gold, two-door Cadillac Eldorado.

She doesn't remember much about the attack but she has the injuries to prove it was viscous. She spent two days in the hospital.

"I have fractured nose. I had to wear a collar. I have two bruises on my face, bruises on my arm. I have bruises all the way up my left side, very, very numb," she said.

As police search for the carjackers, this woman plans to celebrate her birthday this weekend with family and friends. She is grateful for the gift of life.

"The car can be replaced. The purse can be replaced. All of that, but my life can't," she said.

Looks like the 'Night of Healing' as been extended into a long weekend.

Maybe it's just my suspicious nature but the fact that her cousin was following her and somehow lost track of her, combined with her claiming total amnesia as to the event, could it be that this was staged in front of a random witness? Daily stories of how over $100,000 has been raised for the Roseville guy could be quite tempting to some. Not having to provide details that have to be remembered flawlessly would be quite handy when being questioned by police.

Cross to endless swindles, schemes, and scams.

During Monday’s hearing court deputies admonished onlookers for talking. One man was removed from the courtroom.

Saffold made a obscene gesture to a photographer. A group who described themselves as relatives of the defendants laughed when Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey read aloud Saffold’s description of how the mob kicked and punched Utash.

One witness, Anton Sykes, argued with visiting 36th District Court Judge Thomas Jackson and refused to give a statement about what happened at the beating scene. As he argued with the judge, several onlookers laughed and said “yeah!” and “you tell him!”

NYTimes picked up the Utash story

“It’s just like everybody’s mad here in Detroit,”

mad as in angry or like 700,000 rabid animals?

in a story about a girl attacked by some random street miscreant while on the way to school -

The teen struggled and was able to break free. She says she used her sharp nails to poke the suspect in the eye. The teen eventually made it to school where she told her teachers about the close encounter. Her family has since filed a police report but so far, no arrests. They hope sharing the story will make other girls more alert.

She told her teacher. That's nice, now sit down and open your book and, oh, wait, we don't have books now do we?, haha, my bad...what the fuck? Wouldn't the school make , oh I dunno, A FUCKING POLICE REPORT INSTEAD OF HAVING HER FAMILY DO IT AFTER SCHOOL WHEN THE PRECINCTS ARE CLOSED AND ALL THE COPS HAVE GONE HOME???

Seriously, I don't blame the school system because it's come to be expected, but any parent who abdicates their duty and delegates responsibility for the safety of their child to the city or state should be arrested.

Police: Man assaulted after saying bad things in his sleep

Bozeman, Mont. — Police in Montana say a woman kicked and struck her boyfriend with a shotgun because he said bad things about her in his sleep.

Police tell the Bozeman Daily Chronicle that 24-year-old Sara Ann Bade of Willow Creek was arrested at her home at about 2 a.m. Monday.

She appeared in Gallatin County Justice Court that morning on a felony charge of assault with a weapon.

The boyfriend tells police the two were sleeping when he awoke to Bade kicking him and telling him he was talking in his sleep and saying bad things about her. He said she also shot out his front tire and smashed his windshield when he tried to leave. He wasn’t seriously injured.

Bade says the two had been fighting and her boyfriend struck her and wouldn’t leave when she asked him.

The beating of a gay man was caught on tape at Detroit’s Motor City Pride, a gay and lesbian friendly event, held over the weekend.

The video shows 20-year-old Christin Howard, a gay man, fighting off attackers Sunday along Detroit’s Riverwalk as the gay pride festival happened in nearby Hart Plaza.

Howard says five to eight men attacked him. At one point, all the young men joined in on the attack as Christin was on the ground, helpless.

Howard says the attack was unprovoked and that he was getting a picture taken with a friend when the young men started circling, commenting on his long hair, calling him homophobic slurs and threatening violence.

Did I see that right? The pummeled-upon little hair-dressing guy actually was tossing around a guy or two at the end? Next gang fight I want him on my side.

Years and years ago when I was in school and working at the mall we had what was probably the first few moments of this Hart Plaza event, albeit the part not caught on video. To say the least things were less tolerant in the late 80s/early 90s, and one day this guy came strolling through and done up sort of like young Christin. The look was channeling the guy from the Cure, complete with eyeliner and black nail polish, and it was patently obvious that this was just a young gay guy out and flying his flag. Well, a group of young brothers about the age of the guys in the vid started cat-calling and heaping verbal abuse. The gay guy looked upset but didn't say or doing anything. Oh, forgot to mention that this guy was huge, as in I wouldn't want to have gone toe-to-toe with him on, and even if I had a back-up it would still be a dicey proposition. So the young smartasses got bolder and saying things like "I ought to kick your ass" and the like but they didn't get to within arms' reach. I'm pretty sure that the big-mouths saw what I was hoping to see, which was a thorough ass-beating if they got too close. They didn't and the event became a non-event.

Supposedly a huge melee between Harper Woods High and Chandler Park Academy today on the last day of school. Have I said lately, I'm glad I don't work there anymore? Found this posted on twitter. To confirm it's legit, I checked Google street view, and yes, it's the corner of Beaconsfield and Eastwood, two+ blocks south of the high school.
