Doug Collins, who never seemed to be able to keep a team's attention for more than two seasons, 'resigned' today after three in Philly.

The Cavs canned Byron Scott.

Let the Joe D/Lawrence Frank watch begin.

I never really liked him. I tried to give him a chance but I always felt his success in New Jersey was created by riding Byron Scott/Rod Thorn's coattails.

I like what Joe D has in place, I'd give him one more shot. I think Wojo wrote something to the effect of if he we were judging from the last 5 years only he should be gone, but he did have a bit of success before that when his old boss was still alive.

Will Dan Gilbert ever win an NBA championship? I'm thinking no.

I agree. There's some talent there, and most of it has come from the draft -- Knight, Monroe, Drummond. Seems to me they really need a pure scorer and Victor Oladipo looks like he could be that guy.

Vinny Del Negro is out as coach of the Los Angeles Clippers after their first-round playoff exit.

Following one of the best seasons in franchise history, the Clippers said Tuesday that Del Negro won't be offered a new contract when his current one expires at the end of June.

Ohio State president Gordon Gee abruptly announced his retirement Tuesday after he came under fire for jokingly referring to "those damn Catholics" at Notre Dame and poking fun at the academic quality of other schools.

Ohio State called his words unacceptable and said it had placed Gee on a "remediation plan" to change his behavior.

Gee, 69, said in a teleconference that the furor was only part of his decision to retire, which he said he had been considering for a while. He said his age and the start of a long-term planning process at the university were also factors.

"I live in turbulent times and I've had a lot of headwinds, and so almost every occasion, I have just moved on," he said. Gee explained away the abrupt timing by saying he was "quirky as hell" and hated long transitions.

He also said he didn't regret the way he conducted himself as a higher education leader.

"I have regrets when I have said things that I shouldn't have said, but I have no regrets about having a sense of humor and having a thick skin and enjoying life," Gee said.

According to a recording of a Dec. 5 meeting obtained by the AP under a public records request, Gee, a Mormon, said Notre Dame was never invited to join the Big Ten athletic conference because "you just can't trust those damn Catholics."

Gee also took shots at schools in the Southeastern Conference and the University of Louisville, according to the recording of the meeting of the school's Athletic Council.

Gee apologized when the comments were disclosed, saying they were "a poor attempt at humor and entirely inappropriate."

His decision to retire was earlier reported by The Columbus Dispatch.

Robert Schottenstein, who as chairman of the university's board of trustees condemned the remarks last week as "wholly unacceptable" and "not presidential in nature," deflected questions about whether Gee had been forced out by the board.

"It's really about a decision to retire for the reasons that Gordon has articulated," Schottenstein said.

State Treasurer Dillon resigns

Lansing— State Treasurer Andy Dillon is resigning his position in Gov. Rick Snyder’s administration Friday, the Treasury Department said in a statement.

Dillon’s resignation, which he blames on his recent divorce, comes one day after he testified in Detroit's bankruptcy case.

“It has become clear to me — as it likely is to most — that it is unfair to my family and the residents of Michigan, to allow issues related to my recent divorce and the unfortunate acrimony associated with it to be a continued source of media attention and scrutiny,” Dillon said in a statement.

“My family deserves privacy and our residents deserve to know their state treasurer is not distracted by such issues and events. For these personal and professional reasons, I have determined it is in the best interests of all that I resign.”

Dillon said he would stay on until the Republican governor selects a successor and would help with the transition.

“I want to thank the Governor for the opportunity to serve as Treasurer and will work closely with his office to ensure a smooth transition to my successor,” he said.

Dallas-area charter school Prime Prep Academy announced the firing of co-founder and coach Deion Sanders earlier Friday after Sanders was accused of assaulting the school’s chief financial officer during a campus meeting.

Hmmm. Maybe the Kilpatrick kids would be safer at a school in Detroit.

The school probably wasn't making enough profit.

EMU Fires Head Coach For Insane Tirade Directed At Team

English is pretty unhinged, repeatedly refers to his team as playing "shitbird football" and says he doesn't respect them, referring to the team as "quitting ass bitches" and faggot ass motherfuckers."

4.0 (Western grad) and I went to the WMU-EMU game this afternoon in Ypsi. Not to defend English, who, from all indications, was a shitty, shitty, shitty head coach, but Eastern had about as much talent as Seaholm High School. They were slightly less shitty than Western, which lost in overtime.

Nice gesture by Western, however, as all players wore No. 2 on the sides of their helmets as a tribute to the Eastern kid that was murdered.
