Insane night last night...

125 (3 splits one of which, 6-7 split, I picked up) - 190 - 258!

If Dday responds, I'll spout the technical nerdery that led to shooting 118 over average in game 3....otherwise, we'll just leave it as a Chest Thump...

Do the PBA rules allow for 4 tries each frame?

258 is outstanding. I'd like to hear more about this.

A teammate suggested I start "swinging" the ball. As opposed to my more traditional method of "playing an inside line". Basically, moving left, throwing back right at my mark and allowing it to hook back. I was apprehensive at first to make such a big adjustment on league night. I guess I figured all I could go was up from 125. That adjustment came somewhere in the middle of game 2. I began carrying everything on my way to the 190. Opened in the 10th. Game three was a terrific blur. I should have gotten a printout from the front desk. It was something in the neighborhood of spare-spare-spare, then strikes up to the fill shot where I left 8.

Oh and Beav...its a USBC sanctioned league, not PBA...duh!!!

You must really have that hook working now. You can live on the outside edge if you have a good ball that won't skid once it gets there since it's usually pretty dry on the edge. The key now is consistency in how hard you throw the ball and hitting your mark (how do I know this? I seem to have trouble myself). If you haven't already, once your league is finished in the spring, I'd invest in a really good ball. I finally replaced my old AMF Gold Angle (affectionately known as the Booger) with as Storm Atomic Force four years ago and put 15 pins on my average immediately. I'm up from 165 to 190. My average has gone up every year since I have been using the Storm.

Funny in that you're a swinger.........I try and hit between the 7 and 10 board from a little right of center. That makes me a stroker. I think I'd rather be a swinger

Awesome, dude, I'm happy for you. Having a night like that really feels good and makes it worth it. We need to go roll some games when I come up next....

Tonight I bowled my first league games since 1983. Subbed for a buddy's team at Super Bowl in Canton. It's a Bad Bowlers league, so although I was the only one on our team to use alley shoes, all of used an alley ball. Bowled 150, 175, 152 -- surprisingly good for me.

I know a lot of HFD regulars are smokers, but I cannot wait until May 1. Those bowling alleys are smoky.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

Is there a smoking ban starting in MI? We have had it here in OH for a couple years now. While I'm not in favor of them, I gotta say that it is soooooo nice to go to bowling and not have to deal with smoke (and I am an on again off again smoker). If there was no ban and a no-smoking bowling alley, I would be there in a heartbeat.

Nice line, Mulligan. You should join up on the league.

Smoking ban starts May 1 (Detroit casinos exempt). Even with smoke-free bowling alleys, I probably won't join a league -- beer drinking gets covered on hockey nights and the liver needs some rest. I just wanted to chime into this thread so you'd have some company here for a change.

We have the occasional cigar during our league nights, but I'm sure not married to it... I always leave me jacket in the car so I at least have one piece of clothing that doesn't stink. I actually think May 1 might have been strategic, coinciding with the end of most bowling leagues. It's a big business in MI.

194, 254, 287 for a 735 and my second 700 series

Had the front 10 in the last game...........that should bring some respectability back

Had a good night tonight after injuring myself (right ankle and knee) this past weekend whipping ass on both of my kids at the same time (OK.....I fell clearing ice off the drive, but I did almost hit one of them with the ice chipper when said digger was taken). Interesting night in that I had to REALLY adjust and ended having my second best night of the year (212, 221, 189 = 622)......and trust me, the only thing keeping me on my feet by the end of the night was the pitcher and a half I had in me......I was freakin' SORE!

There might be some things I could use in this here exercise.....e.g. easier approach, shorter backswing, drive more into the release. Ball was definitely more on the mark and was better into the pocket as far as the carry I got. Also, and this for me is really good, my speed was much more consistent
