Unless the Seattle and New England defenses get lost on the way to the stadium next month, it looks like it's pretty safe to bet the house on those two meeting in the Super Bowl.

Seattle is a machine right now. They are tough.

Watching the Bengals-Broncos night before last has convinced me that Peyton might be seeing his swan song regardless of what all the ESPN talking heads say. When Andy Dalton bests you in prime time and you out-choke a typical prime time Lions-esque Bengals choke, you might want to start thinking about hanging them up
Where the hell am I going? And what the hell am I doing in this handbasket?

I can accept any Super Bowl that doesn't include New England and Dallas. If either makes it, I'll have to kick my drinking up a notch. If both make it, I'll have to ask the beav about this Kessler stuff.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

If Dallas makes the Super Bowl, I'll eat my hat. Romo has been terrific this season and Dez Bryant is a beast, but Romo's back is being held together with packing tape and dental floss.

New England will be hard to beat at home, but Pittsburgh looks like an intriguing dark horse. Not exactly sure why, but I would hate it if my team had to play them.

Sticking with a Seattle-New England Super Bowl prediction.

Rex Ryan has traded one team with no quarterback and a strong defense for another.

Your take, Mulligan?

Sums it up about right. I think Rex is a good choice. I like the hire.

Since the last Super Bowl:
- Ray Rice got caught punching his fiancee out cold on a hotel security camera, got suspended two games, then got suspended a full season when TMZ aired the footage of the punch ... footage the NFL claimed it never saw despite the fact it leaked a (no pun) blow-by-blow narrative of the incident to the reporters who carry water for the NFL (Schefter, King, Glazer, Mortenson, etc.) BEFORE the initial Rice suspension was allowed.
Roger Goodell, pleading ignorance, says the NFL never saw the tape. The same NFL that lied about not seeing the tape and lied to the reporters that carry its water still insists on fining players who refuse to talk to those same reporters who carry the NFL's water.
- Because the average value of an NFL franchise has skyrocketed, Roger Goodell still has a job.
- The NFL remains a permanent brain injury factory.
- The NFL, which insists on naming 'all star' officials for the playoffs instead of keeping the crews that worked the entire season together for the playoffs, spends the week after the Detroit-Dallas playoff game shrugging its shoulders and explaining how and why the 'all star' crew fucked up the call.
- The NFL also has kept the ridiculous 'process' rule in effect. It was bullshit when they took a TD away from Calvin and it was just as much bullshit when they took that catch away from Dez Bryant. A blogger made a great point: The NFL has become very, very complicated to explain to a casual fan.

That said, the last three minutes and overtime of the NFC Championship game is why we can't quit the NFL.

Somewhere, Marty Mornhinweg sits back and grins broadly, knowing, at last, that taking the wind no longer is the dumbest coaching decision in NFL history.

No fucking way they can stop Lynch from a yard out.
