Spoiler: one of the two cop characters will be revealed as the serial killer. At first I thought it would be troubled weirdo played by Mcougnahy but now I'm predicting the Woody Harrelson family man will have the dark heart. Sorry if I just ruined it for everyone.
I finally caught the finale of True Detective.

It wasn't the cops.
That was a huge letdown, as far as I'm concerned. Waaaay too many loose ends, a plot line that ultimately wasn't very believable, and worst of all, a rapid descent to the clichéd and formulaic buddy cop format. This was 10x worse the The Sopranos.
What should've happened: Rust dies after shooting the killer and in his final moment he offers his last philosophical musing about being at peace and how he can sense the presence of his dad and daughter. Then six months later, Marty goes to his grave to offer a pack of cigs and a sixer of Lone Star in tribute. After a tearful thanks from Marty for saving his life, the camera pans up to reveal a devil catcher hanging from a branch. Now that would've been an ending.
