Well, yea, it kinda is an issue when one of the candidates is staffing up their team with key members of that disaster.

And when the same (lack of) thinking that went into GW's failures continues to play a prominent role in the foreign policies of both sides of the aisle.

None of the kids I teach were alive at 9/11. That, to me, that is a generation ago.

And as long as Cheney isn't around, I couldn't care less.

Rahm Emmanuel's office is trying to extend Uber service to the airports in Chicago and the ad supporting the measure during the Sunday talk shows features cabs passing black passengers by or not showing up to pick up black passengers. Fade to black with a suggestion to call your alderman.
Smart advertising, Uber.

The teabaggers are all passing around these stories...

RED ALERT: “Unbelievers” Get Chilling Warning as Muslim Majority Takes Over US City

Hamtramck, Michigan, has become the first city in America to elect a Muslim-majority city council … and it’s already going about as well as you would expect.

WJBK reported that soon after receiving word that Muslims had successfully captured a majority of the seats on the city council, a Muslim activist made a shocking comment that raised concern even outside Hamtramck.

“Today we show the Polish and everybody else,” said Ibrahim Algahim, whose comments were captured on a cellphone video.

Hamtramck has been predominantly Polish for generations, and now many are fearing that this new Muslim-majority city council will try to destroy what’s left of the Polish heritage in the town.

“I’m shocked that he said that. I’m a very good friend of his,” said Cathie Lisinki-Gordon, a former council member. “I cannot believe that he would ever profile any select group. Especially when his community has felt ostracized and profiled for many years.”

Some Muslims have pushed back against Algahim’s comments, but that has done little to assuage fears.

“I don’t believe in that,” said Saad Almasmar. “And as a candidate, as a city council member, I’m going to work for everybody, represent everybody, because I got elected for everybody.”

“The ultimate goal is to work together,” said Bill Meyer. “We’ve got a great possibility of showing the world how great people can work together, ethnic groups can work together, to solve problems.”

INVASION: Muslims Take Over U.S. Town… Immediately Begin Implementing Shariah Law

Hamtramck, Michigan is the first city in America with a majority Muslim population. According to the Washington Post, the population finally got up the numbers to put their people into city and local government.

And, boy — they didn’t take long to show exactly what a Muslim-run city council was going to do for the impoverished Michigan town.

Hamtramck has been, for decades, a town of Polish immigrants.

Right after the Nov. 3 election, community organizer Ibrahim Algahim expressed glee that the immigrants who had built the town up were no longer in power. “Today, we show the Polish and everybody else,” he said.

And show them, they did. It’s now illegal to serve alcohol within 500 feet of a mosque in Hamtramck, which is surrounded by Detroit and is the most densely populated town in Michigan with a population of 22,000.

And this in a town, according to the Washington Post, that openly flaunted prohibition by keeping bars open.

However, according to one of the men on the city council, Saam Almasmari, it’s not their fault.

“I don’t know why people keep putting religion into politics,” said Almasari, the highest vote-getter in November’s election. “When we asked for votes, we didn’t ask what their religion was.”

The Washington Post describes the city as “row after row of two-story, turn-of-the-century bungalows packed into two square miles.” After manufacturing jobs left, as with the rest of the Michigan, property values in the town plummeted, which led to massive demographic shifts. Now, 27 languages are spoken in Hamtramck’s schools.

“The Polish people think we were invading them,” said Masud Khan, a leader of the town’s al-Islah Islamic Center. “We were a big threat to their religion and culture. Now their days are gone.”

Do you think the story of Hamtramck should serve as a warning to America? Let us know how you feel on our Facebook page and Twitter.

Hamtramck has mostly been Bangladeshi and Balkan European for a while, anyway. Hell, the organizers of the Polish Day parade are all out in Troy and environs.

A friend is the city clerk and, according to him, there has been a bit of dirty pool when it comes to absentee ballots and such, but nothing vitriolic from the muslim folks heavily involved or interested in the day-to-day affairs of the city. A more appropriate headline might be "Muslims a majority in inner-ring suburb no one else wants to live in."

About Those Armed Militia Members/Terrorists Who Seized a Federal Building in Rural Oregon

Sally Kohn blames the federal government and its passive non-response to the first Bundy Insurrection for the current shitshow in Oregon...
There’s a really simple reason why armed men thought they could get beat the federal government in Oregon: They beat Uncle Sam the last time they showed up with guns. Leading the standoff in Oregon is Ammon Bundy, the son of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, whose band of extremists helped him defeat the feds in two years ago.

In 1993, Bundy decided not to renew his permit for cattle grazing in protest of new regulations under the federal Bureau of Land Management, However, Bundy kept grazing his cattle on public lands so that by 2014 Bundy had accrued over $1 million in grazing fees. A judge had first ordered Bundy to remove his cows from public land in 1998 but since Bundy hadn’t done so (after six years!) a judge in 2014 said the federal government could remove Bundy’s cows for him.

After the government rounded up Bundy’s cows, the rancher and some supporters showed up armed. Wrapping up his critique of cattle-grazing policies with a larger anti-government agenda, Bundy himself said at the time, “We’re about ready to take the country over with force!” According to local press, Bundy’s supporters were pointing weapons at the police. The assistant sheriff said Bundy’s supporters “were in my face yelling profanities and pointing weapons.”

And what did the government do? They released Bundy’s cattle and left his armed supporters alone. According to Bundy as of April 2015, he continued to graze his cattle on federal lands without impediment.

No charges were brought against the Bundy's supporters, Kohn points out, after they assaulted federal workers and impeded federal officers—both crimes—and Bundy and his gang did not face legal or lethal repercussions for pointing guns at police officers. So for those of you keeping score at home: Tamir Rice was shot dead in Cleveland, Ohio, because he had a toy gun and the a cop "feared for his life," and John Crawford III was shot dead in Beaverton, Ohio, because he was holding a BB gun in a Walmart (a gun that Walmart stocked and sold) and a cop "feared for his life." (And Ohio is an open-carry state!) But these motherfuckers can point guns at actual police officers and not only aren't they shot dead, they aren't charged with a crime.

And why is that? Josh Marshall at TPM:
I wanted to add one other coverage point on this Oregon white militants situation. On the one hand, a major reason why we've always been so interested in these stories is just how outrageous they are and the fact that the federal government is increasingly wary or simply unwilling to enforce the law.

As I said earlier, this really amounts to white privilege performance art. We always want to avoid violence and bloodshed whenever possible. But we are also a republic. We have a rule of law. People aren't allowed to take over government buildings, threaten federal officials with violence or keep demanding free handouts from the government (which is the underlying issue here) on the threat of violence. This is a mix of violent outlawery and domestic insurrection. And I think, if we think about it, we all know that it doesn't get a very tough response because the country just takes it for granted that white people in the interior West just act weird and do stuff like this.

White people in the interior West are weird, it's true—but they're also white people, and that's the most consequential difference. Black men and boys holding toys guns in an open-carry state are gunned down by the cops and conservatives take to Twitter and Fox News to defend the police. But white people point actual guns or realistic-looking toy guns at cops and either live to tell the tale (like this white lady http://jezebel.com/white-woman-points-bb-gun-at-cops-shouts-shoot-me-is-1749973948) or get off without facing charges—and the same conservatives take to Twitter and Fox News to defend the armed white militants, terrorists, and/or idiots.

Its probably a good thing that everything is so quiet around here because otherwise someone might hear me confess to the impossible: for the first time in a very long time I'm on the president's side on something. Stranger still is the fact the unifying issues are guns and gun control. Amping up oversight of sales at gun makes sense to me.

Not that anything will come about from it, but it's nice to see Snyder being on the hot seat. Any ideas of him running for national office may have been fucked for him because this is going to be his legacy.

We can only hope that it will be one of his legacies; he already fucked up in business with Gateway, now he's fucked up in politics in too many ways to count

I heard a promo for an interview coming up, I think with the charismatic Paul W, where Snyder was going to discuss Flint. Switched channels -- the thought of his relentless positive spin nauseated me. His voice stirs the same visceral reaction as Ted Cruz's stupid face.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

Help an out-of-towner, here. And I mean this in all seriousness. Didn't Flint voluntarily disconnect from the Detroit water system a few years ago to "save money"? Why is this Snyder's fault to the point that he should be indicted and thrown in the can? Woudln't this fall on the Flint City Council (which I would imagine is just as comical as Detroit's)?
Where the hell am I going? And what the hell am I doing in this handbasket?

Even without the Flint disaster, Snyder had no chance of national office. He's got the charisma of dryer lint.
