I finished reading "Dune" for the first time today. Most of you know I'm a pretty big fucking nerd, so this is late coming in my circle. But wow, amazing, I can't imagine how somebody could come up with such a unique story. I am curious if I should read any of the sequels, or appreciate it for the standalone novel it once was... So if any of you philistines can point me in the right direction, it'd be much appreciated.

Reading my first Hitchens book, Good is Not Great, and really enjoying it. He is ascerbic - but not an asshole - which can be a difficult line to toe. Much more pleasant and amusing than some of the more militant athiests.

Started reading Stephen King's "Under The Dome" a month or so ago because I wanted to watch the television program (I like to read the book before the visual media). Nearly 700 pages into the 1,000+ and it's been, like most of his books to me, very entertaining. Say what you will about King, and it will probably be true, but I like him and that's all that matters to me. With this book, he has taken time to develop a lot of characters in depth and tell several intertwined stories in one huge story and he has really pulled it off up to this point. Obviously I don't know if he will wrap it up in a satisfactory manner, but it has been my experience after reading 30+ books by him that he will. I think the only King book that I didn't really care for was "Cell".

Also, was the previous post the last one by Ya Mar? Search and Rescue?

I've been watching the show, (no spoilers) and I usually don't follow a TV series these days, but I figured it's only 13 episodes so no big deal, right? Whatever happens will happen by the end of the summer, and I won't have to suffer any more of this terrible acting. Then a week or so ago I hear the show has been picked up for a second season. Now it's a struggle to make the effort to record and watch it, just don't think I have two seasons in me.

I was only a hundred or so pages into the book when I watched the first episode so I picture him every time I'm reading a part of the book that mentions him. I don't mind it so much though because he's in Breaking Bad and that show kicks fucking ass. I think can hold on for two seasons but then again I watch Hardcore Pawn so I can put up with some pretty shitty television.

I believe he once said his books were the food equivalent to a Big Mac. Sometimes, you read for a diversion. His books do that very well.

I don't know if it's an age thing, but for years now, 99% of what I read is non-fiction. However, I have read the Janet Evanovich series. Again, entertaining and not a bit thought-provoking.

She has started a new series based on on of the characters from the "One for the Money" series. Wife is addicted to those too. Actually, she reads anything by Evanovich she can get her hands on.
