For the stories that don't involve gunplay.

Two men are charged with beating to death a 65-year-old Detroiter earlier this week, police said Thursday.

DeAndre Brock, 18, of Redford Township and Craig Henderson, 19, of Detroit are accused of breaking into a home Monday in the 11300 block of Vaughn and beating the homeowner, Edgar Roberson, unconscious.

When Roberson came to, the men bound his hands with a belt and beat him repeatedly with a wooden object, Detroit police said.

Brock and Henderson then dragged Roberson to the basement, police said, and left in his 2000 Chevy Malibu. Roberson's family discovered the body about 5:30 p.m.

Redford police officers spotted the victim's vehicle Tuesday and arrested Brock and Henderson, police said. The men were charged with premeditated murder, felony murder, assault with intent to rob while armed and first-degree home invasion.

A 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon at the home of Detroit City Council President Pro Tem JoAnn Watson in connection with an alleged assault of a woman.

James Tate, Detroit Police spokesman, said police arrested the man between 3:30 and 4 p.m. at a home in the 3700 block of Sturtevant on the city's west side.

Tate did not identify the suspect or the victim but confirmed an assault was alleged at that address.

The woman was reportedly kicked and beaten and taken to a nearby hospital. Her condition was not available.

An investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed, Tate said.

Watson's relationship to the man was unclear Thursday, and she could not be reached for comment.

The suspect was being held in the 12th Precinct lockup late Thursday afternoon, Tate said.

I didn't know JoAnn was a Dexter Dawg. Wonder if she ever takes the bus to work.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

Actually, the correct answer is: f. None of the above

Ms. Watson would be more likely the assign blame from the following choices:

a. The Water Department
b. The Livernois Median
c. Anyone connected to the incinerator

I wouldn't be surprised if any of those last three were actually responsible for this.

Councilwoman Watson's son charged with domestic violence
Santiago Esparza / The Detroit News

Detroit -- The son of a local elected official faces an April 23 pretrial hearing in 36th District Court after being charged with assaulting his wife earlier this week at his mother's home.

Damon Watson, 39, the son of Detroit City Council President Pro Tem JoAnn Watson, was arraigned Saturday afternoon by video from the Detroit Police Department's Western District.

Magistrate Steven Lockhart entered a not guilty plea for Damon Watson and set a $2,000 bond but included a provision that would let Watson out of lockup if he paid 10 percent of the bond.

Lockhart also ordered Watson to participate in a domestic violence intervention class and to stay away from his wife, even if it meant living elsewhere while the court proceedings unfold.

Watson has previous convictions for unrelated criminal offenses in Oakland County, but they were not assaults, Lockhart said during Watson's arraignment.

"It looks like Oakland County is happy they don't have to fool with you," Lockhart said. "I'm not happy I have to fool with you. Mrs. Watson is not happy she has to deal with you."

Lockhart did not detail the previous charges.

Watson, clad in a yellow-and-black Polo-style shirt, did not speak during the arraignment other than to state his name and give one-word answers to questions from the judge about whether he understood the proceedings.

On Thursday, a woman called police and said she was assaulted about 11 a.m. on the 3700 block of Sturdevant on the city's west side. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Thug son of a Detroit councilmember arrested after beating his woman into the hospital. Note to self: use this as a storyline in my next book, a sequel to my exceptional first novel, Whoreson. I'll follow that with a sequal to my exceptional second novel, Dopefiend, a period piece from the 80's crack scene, an era I missed due to a death (my own) in 1974.

An Ohio man is claiming Detroit Piston Allen Iverson’s bodyguard attacked him Saturday night while attending a birthday party in Detroit.

Guy Walker told Local 4 he was at the South Beach Pizza Bar when Allen Iverson showed up.

"Everyone was excited because we were among superstars," Walker said. He added that he's followed Iverson's career for years.

Walker said he joined a group of people in the restaurant who were trying to talk and get autographs from Iverson.

"I was like, 'AI, what's going on?' And he was ignoring me," Walker said. "So I was like whatever and went back to my spot."

Walker said Iverson's bodyguard started to give him a hard time and words were exchanged. As he turned to walk away, Walker said the bodyguard hit him.

"We were just jaw-jacking back at each other. And just as I was about to turn, I just felt this pain in my eye," Walker said. "I didn't touch him, I didn't raise my hand or act like I was going to touch him."

Walker was taken to Henry Ford Hospital where he received nine stitches.

Walker said he didn’t know if Iverson knew, or saw, what happened. But he said it's not about getting money or taking legal action.

"It's about what is right and wrong," Walker said.

According to a police report Walker showed Local 4, a man identified only as “Allen Iverson’s body guard,” is listed as the defendant.

The Pistons have not commented on the incident and police have not confirmed the name of the man who is allegedly Iverson’s bodyguard.

No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.

This is not the first time such a scenario has played out (if it's genuine). He recently was found to be responsible for siccing a bodyguard on another dude.

I'll be very pleased when his ass is with another team.
